If you are looking for the perfect summer spot to relax with kids, Strandbad Zug is one of our family’s favorite swimming destinations. This lakeside beach offers free entry and stunning views of Lake Zug, making it ideal for a full or half-day of sunshine. Located right in the heart of Zug, it is an easy 30-minute drive or train ride from both Lucerne and Zurich. Swimming and Family Activities
The entire facility received a major upgrade for the 2026 summer season, adding even more amenities for families.
- New Sandy Beach: There are now two distinct sandy areas. The newest beach features a beautiful wooden dock extending out into the water. It is surrounded by a wide grassy field, though the newly planted trees don’t offer much shade yet.
- Old Sandy Beach: The second, original sandy beach is right next to the splash pool. It is perfect for building sandcastles, and they even provide free sand toys! We love that this area has large umbrellas to keep the kids out of the direct sun.
- Lounging: If you prefer grass or wooden decking, there are plenty of spots to lay out a towel under mature, shady trees. You can also grab a comfortable lounge chair for just a 2 CHF coin deposit.
- Diving Platform: For bigger kids and adventurous swimmers, there is a diving platform out in the lake, fully monitored by a lifeguard.
- Kids’ Splash Pool: When our kids want a break from the lake, they head straight to the shallow splash pool, which was recently updated with a fun slide, fountains, and a water canal.
On-Site Dining Options
You don’t have to worry about packing heavy coolers because Strandbad Zug features two food kiosks—one in the new section and one in the older area. The menu is new for 2026, offering hot dogs, fresh salads, crispy fries, burgers, and pinsas (a delicious style of pizza). Our kids enjoyed the chicken nugget plate, and we shared a Margarita Pinsa. The dining area is shaded by mature trees and has a relaxed beach vibe. It can get incredibly busy on hot summer weekends, so finding a table during peak lunch hours can be tricky. You are also more than welcome to bring your own picnic to enjoy on the grass.

Arrival Information: There is no public car parking directly at Strandbad Zug (only handicapped spaces are available). Most locals arrive by bike or use public transit. If you do choose to drive, we recommend parking at the Hafenweg West parking lot. From there, it is a flat, easy 5 to 10-minute walk to the beach entrance. Be sure to arrive early on weekends to secure a parking spot!
