Finding family-friendly accommodation in Lisbon that comfortably fits a large group can be a challenge. For our recent family vacation, we needed enough space for 4 adults and 2 kids, practical self-catering amenities, and easy logistics. We chose UPON Lisbon Prime Residences (located in São Domingos de Benfica, near Estádio da Luz), and it turned out to be a great home base.
The Apartments: Layout and Practical Features
We booked the “Two-Bedroom Apartment with View”, which featured two separate bedrooms and a pull-out sofa bed in the living area for the kids.
- Space & Comfort: With six of us, it was a bit of a tight squeeze, but since we spent most of our daylight hours out exploring Lisbon, it worked out well.
- Bathrooms: Having two full bathrooms was an absolute lifesaver during busy mornings.
- In-Room Amenities: The fully equipped kitchen (complete with a dishwasher) and the in-unit washer/dryer combo made traveling with young children significantly easier.
The Highlight: Year-Round Heated Rooftop Pool & Bar
The rooftop pool was hands down the kids’ favorite feature.
- Retractable Roof: Thanks to the retractable glass roof, the pool is operational across all seasons.
- Atmosphere & Sun: Loungers and pool towels are provided. Direct afternoon sun can make the pool area quite warm, so morning dips and post-sightseeing evening swims were our sweet spots.
- Food & Drinks: You can order drinks and meals directly from the adjacent rooftop bar while keeping an eye on the kids.
Dining and Grocery Options
- Breakfast Buffet: Available on-site for an added fee, offering standard continental fare such as eggs, sliced meats, cheeses, breads, and cereals.
- Self-Catering: We preferred picking up fresh Portuguese pastries and coffee from the supermarket right across the street to enjoy a quiet breakfast in our kitchen.
- Casual Dining: The on-site restaurant serves burgers and casual fare, while Patty Smash Burger is located right outside the building with both indoor and outdoor seating.
Location, Transport, and Key Amenities
- Airport Proximity: Just a 10-minute drive to Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS), making early-morning departures far less stressful.
- City Transit: While not located in the historic center, downtown hubs were only a 15–20 minute Uber ride away. This saved us from navigating Lisbon’s steep hills and endless stairs with kids in tow.
- Free Secure Parking: Complimentary underground garage parking is included—a rare, high-value perk if you are renting a car for day trips to Sintra or Cascais.
- Privilege Card Perks: Signing up for the hotel’s free Privilege Card program gave our group a welcome drink upon arrival along with room discounts.
- Front Desk Support: The staff was exceptionally responsive via WhatsApp and even helped us secure discounted tickets to popular attractions like the Lisbon Aquarium. For our full family guide to the Lisbon Aquarium, click here.
Final Thoughts
If you are looking for a central, historic boutique hotel directly on a cobblestone tram route, this isn’t it. But if you want a reliable Lisbon aparthotel with a pool, free parking, full kitchens, and fast airport access, UPON Lisbon Prime Residences delivers tremendous value for larger families.
