Strandbad Seeburg, located in the town of Küssnacht am Rigi (Canton Schwyz), is a fantastic, family-friendly beach on Lake Lucerne. Situated less than a 30-minute drive from both Lucerne and Zug, this lakeside retreat is incredibly accessible and budget-friendly. With its large sandy beach, children’s splash pool, and playground, it’s the perfect spot to spend a few hours or a full day. Families can relax with a picnic under the shade of mature trees or grab a bite at the on-site restaurant. If you are exploring Switzerland with kids, this is a wonderful place to unwind by the water.
The Swimming Area
- Sandy Beach: The lake features a gently sloping sandy shoreline, making it safe and easy for toddlers and little kids. There’s also a fun water slide in the shallow area that my 5-year-old daughter absolutely loved.
- Deep Water: Further out in the lake, older kids and adults can jump from the diving board and diving platforms.
- SUP Access: There is a designated area to launch your own Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) to cruise the lake.
- Children’s Pool: Located right in the middle of the facility is a small children’s wading pool. We really appreciated the large umbrellas that provided plenty of shade over the water.
- Safety: A lifeguard is on duty for emergencies, giving parents a little extra peace of mind.
On-Site Amenities & Activities
Beyond swimming in Lake Lucerne, the facility offers plenty of off-water entertainment:
- Playground: Features a climbing structure, a slide, and a few swings.
- Sand Pit: A dedicated sand play area shaded by umbrellas and stocked with toys.
- Water Play: A fun, interactive space near the beach with small canals to funnel water.
- Sports: A grass soccer field with goals, plus a sand volleyball court.
- Ping-Pong: A few tables are available between the soccer and volleyball areas. You can bring your own paddles and balls or rent them at the entrance.
Dining
If you don’t feel like packing food, the on-site restaurant serves up classic beach fare, including pizza and chicken nuggets. There is a nice, shaded seating area next to the restaurant to enjoy your meal. Alternatively, you can take advantage of the massive lawn shaded by large, mature trees—guests are welcome to bring their restaurant orders back to their towels or set up their own family picnic.
Arrival, Entrance Fees & Tips
- Entrance Fees: This is a fantastic, budget-friendly option for family travel in Switzerland. Entry is 5 CHF for adults, 3.50 CHF for kids (ages 6–16), and completely free for children under 6 (Summer 2026 prices).
- Rentals: At the entrance, guests can rent chairs, umbrellas, or ping-pong equipment for a small fee.
- Facilities: Showers and changing rooms are located on-site. Lockers are available but require a 2 CHF coin deposit.
- Arrival & Parking: There is a paid parking lot directly in front of the entrance, but spots are limited. If you are visiting on a sunny summer weekend, be sure to arrive early to secure a parking spot!
Conclusion
If you are looking for a lakeside retreat with plenty of options to keep everyone happy, Strandbad Seeburg is an excellent choice. The entrance fees are affordable, and the amenities are perfectly tailored for children. Between the SUP access, the lake slide, and the playground, it was a major highlight for our family.
