Murimoos Switzerland: A Family Day Trip Guide

If you are looking for unique, budget-friendly things to do in Switzerland with kids, Murimoos is a wonderful option. Located in Canton Aargau, this destination combines nature, agriculture, and social responsibility. As a Swiss social enterprise, Murimoos provides meaningful work opportunities for people with disabilities, producing high-quality organic goods ranging from fresh produce and meat to handmade wooden playground equipment. In fact, if you’ve ever played on a whimsical wooden playground in Switzerland, check for a plaque—it might have been built right here!

Families can explore an organic farm store, let the kids loose on a massive playground, or walk an educational trail. A typical visit takes about two hours, making it a convenient family day trip from Zurich, Lucerne, or Zug (all within a 30 to 60-minute drive).

The Playground

The absolute highlight of our family visit to Murimoos was the playground. It is spacious, fully fenced, and well-equipped for children of all ages.

Our kids always enjoy a visit here because of the sheer variety of activities, including:

  •  Sturdy wooden climbing structures and slides
  •  Swings and a variety of balancing equipment
  •  A fun zip line

For parents, the layout is highly functional. Shaded picnic tables and public bathrooms are located directly next to the play area, making it easy to spend a comfortable afternoon. There are also vending machines on-site stocking quick snacks, cold drinks, and ice cream.

Murimoosweg Walking Trail

Another major attraction is the Murimoosweg, a 3.5-kilometer nature and farm trail that loops across the property. The trail begins right at the farm’s butcher shop, where you can find a large map of the property showing the full route. The path features 18 interactive information boards that introduce families to organic farming practices, local wildlife, and the farm’s famous stork conservation project. We found the trail manageable with a sturdy stroller, though a few sections are a bit bumpy. Including snack breaks and a long playtime stop, the entire route took us about two hours.

The kids especially loved spotting the massive stork nests perched high above the farm buildings and fields. Murimoos is home to more than 50 storks as part of a Swiss program to support nesting populations.

Note: The educational signs are entirely in German, but we easily used the Google Translate app’s camera feature to read along.

Other Amenities and Arrival

Getting to Murimoos is straightforward and highly accessible for families traveling by car.

  •  Parking: Free parking is available right next to the Organic Market and Butcher, with an additional parking lot located directly behind the playground.
  •  Shopping: You can purchase farm-fresh organic vegetables, dairy, and meats directly from the on-site farm store.
  •  Dining: If you want a sit-down meal, the Café Moospintli is a self-service, family-friendly restaurant on the property. On our visit, we opted to bring our own picnic and enjoyed it at the shaded tables right beside the playground.
  •  Bonus for Locals: If you live nearby and enjoy gardening, you can drive your car right up to the farm’s free compost area to load up for your garden.
Final Thoughts

Overall, our family found Murimoos to be an excellent mix of outdoor play, farm education, and nature. The playground and the storks were the absolute highlights for our children. One quick heads-up: while we enjoyed walking the trail, we did find a few sections roped off and slightly confusing to navigate, even though the main signs indicated the trail was open. We highly recommend checking the official Murimoos website for current trail conditions before you head out.

If you want to support a Swiss social enterprise while giving your kids plenty of space to run and play, Murimoos is a fantastic choice. It is an easy, rewarding half-day trip for anyone seeking an outdoor adventure in Switzerland with kids.
