Nestled in the heart of the Swiss Alps, Madrisa is one of the best family-friendly winter destinations in Switzerland. Known as the “Family Mountain” of Davos Klosters, this alpine playground offers skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, winter hikes, and, one of our children’s favorites, a bouncy castle. It’s the perfect place for families to enjoy a full day in the snow.
Arrival and Tickets
Madrisa sits at around 1,800 meters above sea level and is easily accessed by a 12-minute gondola ride from Klosters Dorf Station. Check the online webcam for current mountain conditions before your trip. Tickets can be purchased directly at the station, but note that half-fare and Junior cards are not valid for discounts on this lift. If you’re arriving by car, plan to come early, as parking fills up quickly on weekends. For those using public transport, buses conveniently stop right at the cable car entrance.
Sledding Fun for Families
The short, family-friendly sledding run near the mountain station was one of the highlights of our visit. Sleds are available free of charge, though you can also bring your own. Even on a busy winter weekend, we never waited long for a sled, and the magic carpet made it easy to return to the top after each run. It’s a simple yet fun activity—ideal for families with young children.
Beginner Skiing Area
Madrisa is an excellent spot for beginner skiing in Davos Klosters. Although we didn’t ski this time, the gentle slopes and magic carpets are clearly suited for first-timers and children. The area includes practice lifts, small tunnels, and fun obstacles that keep young skiers motivated. Discounted lift passes are available for half days or for those who only want to use the beginner zone. Ski rentals can be found right at the top station for added convenience.
Bouncy Castle Fun
Right by the sledding hill, the large inflatable bouncy castle was an instant favorite with our kids. They played there for ages while we watched from nearby benches, enjoying the panoramic mountain views. Just remember—boots off before bouncing!
Dining with a View
When it’s time for a break, the self-service Madrisa-Alp restaurant offers family-friendly dining with beautiful alpine views. The outdoor terrace overlooks the main activity area, so you can relax while keeping an eye on your kids sledding or skiing. The children’s menu features classic options like pasta and chicken nuggets at reasonable prices (by Swiss Alpine standards). It’s an easy and comfortable lunch stop for families.
Final Thoughts
Madrisa truly lives up to its reputation as the Family Mountain of Davos Klosters. With sledding, beginner slopes, a play area, and cozy dining options, it offers endless ways for families to enjoy winter in Switzerland. We loved the relaxed atmosphere and stunning alpine backdrop. Next time, we plan to try skiing and perhaps a short winter hike. Whether you’re seeking a fun-filled day of snow adventures or a peaceful family outing, Madrisa is a must-visit destination for families exploring the Swiss Alps.
