If you’re planning a family outing near Brienz, Switzerland, the Trauffer World of Experience is a charming destination that promises fun and learning for kids and adults alike. It is only a 20-minute drive from Interlaken, so it can be easily accessed on a trip to the Bernese Oberland. This is also a great option when the weather is poor and a trip up the mountains is not desirable. Allocate about 1 to 2 hours for your visit to fully enjoy the interactive exhibits, creative activities, and the lovely surroundings.

A Brief History of Trauffer
Trauffer is a beloved Swiss brand renowned for its handcrafted wooden toys, especially the iconic wooden cows that have become a symbol of Swiss tradition and quality. Founded in the mid-20th century, Trauffer has maintained its dedication to artisanal craftsmanship, blending traditional carving techniques with playful designs. The company’s commitment to quality and creativity is evident in every piece.

Exploring the Trauffer World of Experience
The Trauffer World of Experience is a small museum, but it’s packed with interactive exhibits designed to engage children in the art of wooden toy making. Kids can learn about the intricate process of carving these charming wooden animals, gaining an appreciation for the skill and care involved. If you have extra time, there is an opportunity to carve your own wooden cow, though this activity takes over an hour and is best reserved for those with a bit more time. Our favorite part is letting the kids choose a wooden animal to paint as a personalized souvenir. This is an additional cost, and the price depends on the animal selected. When we visited, painting a small cow cost 15 CHF. The museum also features a fun marble run and a large mirrored room filled with a rainbow of colorful Trauffer cows.

Dining at the Trauffer Restaurant
After exploring the museum, head downstairs to the self-service restaurant, which we find very family-friendly and enjoyable. The menu is simple but satisfying, with burgers being our go-to choice. Don’t miss out on the self-serve ice cream — it’s a delicious treat that perfectly caps off the visit. The casual setting is ideal for families to relax and recharge before continuing their day.

Shopping at the Trauffer Store
No visit to the Trauffer World of Experience is complete without a stop at the gift shop. You can even purchase cow-shaped pasta! Additionally, you’ll find the full range of Trauffer wooden animals, barns, tractors, and more. As a family, we’ve made it a tradition to buy a Trauffer wooden animal whenever we travel to a new destination, adding to our collection that sparks memories of past adventures. The gift shop is also where you can purchase tickets to the museum.

Outdoor Fun and Accommodation
Outside, the fun continues with a spacious playground featuring large wooden Trauffer animals, slides, and plenty of space for kids to run around and burn off energy — especially after enjoying that tasty ice cream. For families looking to extend their stay, there is a family-friendly hotel on the property. Although we haven’t stayed there ourselves, the rooms look modern and inviting, and the location is perfect for exploring the area around Brienz. Nearby attractions include Hasliberg with the marble run trail, Aareschlucht (Aare Gorge), Giessbach Waterfall, and much more.
