Strandbad Zug is one of our family’s favorite spots for sunny afternoons by the lake. This free lakeside area is open every summer when the weather is nice—check their website for up-to-date opening times. We love coming here to relax, swim, and soak up the beautiful views of Lake Zug.
Swimming and Family Activities
Swimming at Strandbad Zug is a real treat for families. There’s a small sandy beach that our kids love, perfect for building sandcastles with the free sand toys provided. Large umbrellas offer shade on the beach, and the grassy areas throughout the site are great for laying out a towel and enjoying a snack in the shade underneath the large trees. For more adventurous swimmers, there’s a diving platform further out in the lake, and a lifeguard is on duty. When our children want a break from the lake, they head to the shallow pool with its slide and fountains, which is always a hit.
Dining Options
The on-site restaurant is excellent, serving pinsas (similar to pizza), hot dogs, salads, fries, and burgers—we especially enjoy the pinsas. For dessert, we always grab some gelato. The dining area is shaded by trees and has a fun, relaxed beach vibe. It’s worth noting that it can get crowded on weekends, so finding a table can be tricky during peak times. Alternatively, lunch can be enjoyed picnic style under the large trees.
Facilities and Access
Facilities include changing rooms, showers, and bathrooms. There’s no parking for regular cars directly at Strandbad Zug (except for handicapped spaces), so most people arrive by bike or public transit. If we drive, we park at “Hafenweg West” and walk the short 5–10 minutes to the beach. Arriving early on weekends is best to secure a parking spot.
