Located just 15 to 20 minutes from the city center by car or public transit, this action-painting studio makes a mess the entire point. We spent an afternoon slinging paint with boxing gloves and tennis rackets, and it quickly became one of our favorite rainy-day adventures in Switzerland.
The Painting Experience
We were set up in a semi-private, wooden-walled booth with our blank canvases stapled straight to the walls. Colore Box skips traditional easels. Instead, you grab tennis rackets, ropes, squeegees, rubber balls, and even toilet wands to splatter color across the room. There is a sheet of plain paper provided to test out the tools first, though my kids immediately threw caution to the wind and went straight for the boxing gloves. Launching paint-soaked punches directly onto the canvas was an instant hit. Whenever one of us didn’t like how a section turned out, we simply dragged a squeegee across the surface to reset the background and start fresh.
Practical notes on paint and cleanup:
- The paint is non-toxic, child-safe, and water-based, but you will get messy. Bring a change of clothes just in case.
- Every guest receives a protective suit and shoes, which keep the bulk of the splatter off your clothes.
- A large wash station is available on-site to clean hands and faces once you wrap up.

Keep in mind that finished canvases require at least two days to dry completely before you can pick them up. - Where to Eat: After our session, we walked 10 minutes over to Signor Giuseppe for lunch. It is open on Sundays, serves generous portions of delicious pizza and pasta, and caters well to young families with high chairs and a baby changing station available.
