Williams ButchersTable: One of the Top Restaurants in Zug

Williams ButchersTable is easily one of the best restaurants in Zug, and we loved its unique concept combining a modern steakhouse with an upscale, walk-up butcher counter in the heart of the pedestrian-friendly old town. Recognized among the top 101 steak restaurants globally and featured in the Michelin Guide, it makes for the perfect afternoon date spot. We had an incredible experience hand-selecting our meat directly from the friendly, knowledgeable butcher, ultimately choosing a Prime Black Angus Hanging Tender and a Spanish Pata Negra pork cut. Everything from our starter salad to the shared truffle fries was exceptional—just make sure to ask your server for their specialty smoked salt, which paired perfectly with our pork.

While we enjoyed this particular meal as a couple, we made sure to scope out the setup for anyone planning a family trip to Switzerland. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating and provides baby chairs. However, parents should note that while they offer burgers for children, there is no dedicated kid’s menu or baby changing table. Because this is such a popular spot, we highly recommend booking an online reservation in advance. After our meal, we loved strolling through Zug’s old town and along the gorgeous lakeside promenade. We finished our date afternoon with some amazing gelato from LucyGoose Ice Creamery right by the water, which is easily one of our favorite things to do in Zug with kids or on a solo date.
