Einsiedeln Abbey is a Benedictine monastery located about 30 minutes south of Zurich. This magnificent Baroque monastery is a major pilgrimage site, famous for its Chapel of Grace, which houses the Black Madonna. Entrance to the beautiful church is free, and it is breathtaking. Photography inside is not allowed. The town of Einsiedeln is very charming and hosts different events throughout the year, such as the Christmas Market or the local livestock show (Viehasstellung). The main town is easily walkable from the abbey, and I recommend grabbing a coffee or a bite to eat at Restaurant Bären, which is also a bakery. I always buy the kids cookies or treats there to have later. The abbey can be reached by train or car, with several public parking spaces and a parking garage available. The surrounding landscape offers scenic views and outdoor activities, making Einsiedeln a great destination.
