Our family loves visiting Zoo Zürich which boasts over 4,000 animals across a variety of indoor and outdoor exhibits. Each visit feels like a new adventure, as there’s always something exciting to discover. The zoo has become one of our kids’ favorite outings, blending fun with education in a beautiful setting.

Tickets for the zoo can be purchased online or through their app, which is highly recommended to avoid long lines at the ticket counter, especially on weekends. If you do decide to buy tickets at the park, be prepared for potentially long waits. The entrance at the Masoala Rainforest tends to be less busy.

Given its size, we often focus on exploring just a small section during our visits. Strollers are a lifesaver for younger kids, and during summer months, the Masoala tram offers a convenient way to see more without exhausting little legs. My son is particularly fond of reptiles, so we always visit the Masoala Rainforest, where he can marvel at chameleons. My daughter enjoys visiting the penguins and the aquarium, which also features reptiles and monkeys—there truly is something for everyone.

The zoo also has a variety of events including animal presentations and feedings. Check their app or website at 9 AM on the day of your visit to confirm what events will be happening.
- During the chilly winter months, specifically from November to February, Emperor Penguin parades whenever temperatures drop below 10°C (50°F). My kids absolutely loved watching the penguins as they waddled in a large circle, and zoo staff guided us on where to stand and reminded children to remain still for safety. Arriving 5-10 minutes early ensures a good viewing spot, though it’s easier to move closer after the first lap when crowds start to thin. Just be cautious afterward, as the penguins can be quite messy.
- My daughter loved feeding the giraffes at the zoo. Tickets must be purchased at the Ubele Kiosk for 2CHF. There are a limited number of tickets per day so make sure to get them early. For each ticket, a guest receives a branch. The giraffes were definitely stronger than my 2 year old so I had to hold the branch with her.

When it comes to lunch, we love dining at the indoor Masoala Restaurant, which offers stunning views of the rainforest through large windows. For more variety, Restaurant Pantanal at the entrance features both indoor and outdoor seating along with a playground for kids. Both restaurants offer baby chairs. There are also numerous food stalls throughout the park, and guests are welcome to bring their own picnic.

Parking can be tricky on weekends as lots fill up quickly. If you find yourself without a spot, there are additional lots further away with shuttle buses available to take you to the zoo. Alternatively, public transit is a convenient option. With its diverse exhibits, special events, and family-friendly amenities, it remains one of our top destinations for family fun in Zurich.
