If you are looking for a sweet Easter family activity in Switzerland, Aeschbach Chocolatier in Root is an excellent choice. Located just 15 minutes from Lucerne and 30 minutes from Zug, it is one of our favorite Swiss chocolate factories for a day trip. In the weeks leading up to Easter, Aeschbach hosts a popular chocolate bunny decorating event. Having participated multiple times, we highly recommend it for families with children of all ages.
The Chocolate Bunny Decorating Course
The decorating event takes place in a temporary structure in the factory parking lot. Here is what you can expect during the session:
- Meet the Easter Bunny: Upon arrival, the Easter Bunny greets children and is available for family photos.
- Decorating: Each participant receives a 180 g milk chocolate bunny. You are provided with melted white and milk chocolate to use as “glue” for various candy decorations.
- Duration: The process takes about 30–45 minutes, making it accessible even for toddlers (with a little parental help).
- Packaging: Once finished, staff will dry and package your bunny for you to take home.
- Cost: The price is CHF 25 per person and includes a CHF 5 voucher valid at the ChocoWelt, ChocoBoutique, or ChocoCafé.
Tip: We recommend booking tickets in advance on the official Aeschbach Chocolatier website to secure your preferred date and time.
Exploring the ChocoWelt and Amenities
Beyond the Easter event, there are several other things to do at the factory:
- ChocoWelt Museum: Take a self-guided tour to learn about chocolate production and enjoy unlimited chocolate samples.
- Custom Chocolate Bars: For an additional fee, you can create a personalized 200 g chocolate bar with your favorite toppings.
- ChocoCafé & Boutique: The café offers meals and treats, while the boutique is the perfect place to stock up on high-quality Swiss Easter chocolate.
- Outdoor Space: Directly across from the factory are walking trails along the river—perfect for kids to burn off energy after a chocolate tasting.

Practical Information for Your Visit
Getting to the factory is easy, whether you are using public transport or driving. If you are taking the train, get off at “Root D4” station, which is less than a 5-minute walk from the entrance. For those arriving by car, there is a free parking lot right next to the factory. The entire facility is stroller-friendly, with elevator access throughout. While there are no lockers to store your belongings, coat hangers are available. We recommend planning 1–2 hours to fully enjoy both the decorating course and the chocolate museum.
Why We Recommend It
We love the Aeschbach Easter Bunny course because it is simple, creative, and inclusive for younger children. The combination of a hands-on workshop, a modern chocolate museum, and nearby walking paths makes it a fun and well-rounded family outing.
