Seleger Moor Botanical Garden

Located in Rifferswil, Switzerland, Park Seleger Moor is a great destination for families seeking a mix of nature, adventure, and relaxation. This beautiful botanical garden spans 120,000 square meters and is renowned for its vibrant rhododendron and azalea blooms. The garden was started by Robert Seleger in 1953 and is open to the public from April to October.

In spring, the park transforms into a colorful wonderland with hundreds of thousands of rhododendrons and azaleas. They are absolutely beautiful, with more than 200 varieties. The park’s main winding paths are stroller-accessible, but there are some smaller paths that are not. My kids enjoy exploring these smaller trails to discover hidden spots and look for wildlife. Plan for at least 1-2 hours to enjoy the park.

There are also several ponds in the park with beautiful water lilies. When they are in bloom, it is beautiful to walk along the paths or over the bridges next to the water. My kids enjoy spotting frogs, snakes, ducks, and fish.

The park offers a BBQ area where families can enjoy a meal together. Next to the BBQ area is an interactive station to learn about bird calls. My children also love racing balls on the wooden marble run. There are many park benches throughout where you can enjoy a snack. My son enjoys bird watching on the benches, where there are bird feeders to attract birds. There is also a restaurant with outdoor seating if you prefer not to pack a picnic.

Park Seleger Moor is conveniently located near Zurich, Zug, and Lucerne, making it an easy day trip from these cities. There is a paid parking lot, and it is accessible by public transit at the “Rifferswil, Seleger Moor” bus stop. Tickets can be purchased online or at the entrance. There can be longer lines on sunny weekends, so arriving early is recommended. Season passes can also be purchased. At the park entrance, families can purchase plants, allowing kids to take home a small piece of their adventure.

Park Seleger Moor offers a unique blend of natural beauty, educational opportunities, and family-friendly activities, making it an ideal destination for families looking to spend quality time together in a picturesque setting. Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation, or simply a fun day out, this enchanting park has something for everyone.
