Rulantica Water Park Review: A Family-Friendly Nordic Water Adventure for All Ages

Our family recently visited Rulantica Water Park, a Nordic-themed water world that offers fun for all ages. The park is truly amazing—the level of theming and detail is out of this world. With both indoor and outdoor areas, it can be enjoyed in any weather. There are many water attractions for all ages, so the whole family can join in. Plan to spend at least half a day, if not a full day, exploring.

Land of the Trolls (Trølldal) for Little Kids

We spent much of our time in the Land of the Trolls, a magical water playground for children aged 3 to 12. It features shallow pools, easy slides, and playful water sprayers. Our kids enjoyed this area, but it was incredibly crowded on Saturday, making it difficult to keep an eye on them. The central tree structure leads to multiple slides, which made it tricky to follow the kids. Dress your children in bright colors or give them a swim cap to make them easier to spot. Also, consider visiting on a less busy day.

Adventure Pool for Older Kids

Older kids will love the Adventure Pool area, which includes challenging climbing structures and more thrilling slides. There’s also a cool obstacle course called Hoppablad, where two people can race across platforms. Our older son wasn’t feeling well, so we didn’t spend much time in this section.

Snorri’s Saga – Our Family Favorite

Our favorite spot was Snorri’s Saga, a lazy river that gently carries you through the park. We’ve never experienced a lazy river as an attraction before, and we loved it. It’s a relaxing tube ride that passes beautifully themed underwater caves, pirate ships, and colorful Nordic scenes. It’s perfect for the whole family—we rode it multiple times. Watch out for the octopus if you don’t want to get splashed!

Surf Fjord Wave Pool

The Surf Fjord is the heart of Rulantica—a massive wave pool our children really enjoyed. When a ship’s horn sounds and a large sea dragon appears on the screen, new waves begin. Safety is well considered, with free life jackets for children and several lifeguards on duty. This was our second favorite attraction. The textured ground is great for traction but can be uncomfortable, so consider bringing swim shoes to help on both the pool floor and the park’s slippery tiles.

Water Slides and Fun

There are several water slides throughout the park, each with different age and height restrictions. Rafting slides like Vinter Rytt offer high-speed excitement, while Dugdrob features freefall trapdoor starts, and Vikingløp lets riders race. We were surprised by the variety and theming of the slides, but unfortunately, we couldn’t try them as our older son wasn’t feeling well. The extensive theming and innovative designs make Rulantica a great destination for water slide enthusiasts. Wait times are displayed on screens throughout the park.

Lockers, Showers, and Changing Areas

Rulantica is well-equipped with lockers accessed via your wristband (for an extra €1), which we found helpful for storing our things safely. There are also changing rooms, showers, and several hair dryers. We brought our own towels and shower products.

Food Options

Rulantica offers several dining options, including a few self-service restaurants. We chose the pizza and pasta restaurant. While we enjoyed the food, the process was challenging—there’s a separate line for pasta and another for pizza, so if your family wants both, you have to wait in both lines. Drinks are served in reusable cups, which must be returned to get your deposit back.

Hyggedal for Adults and Relaxation Areas

For adults seeking relaxation, the Hyggedal area provides a peaceful retreat with sauna facilities (for an extra charge, ages 12+). Another relaxation option is the reserved sofa areas. We arrived an hour after opening, but every chair was already reserved, so we only had a place to sit at lunch. Guests can reserve a special quiet sofa area, which looked like a nice escape from the crowds.

Tickets and Wristbands

We purchased our tickets online in advance, as tickets can sell out during peak times. I added a single locker to one of our tickets, which was enough for our family. Upon arrival, staff provided wristbands for each family member, used for purchases and locker access. You pay any outstanding balance at checkout.

Parking

There is a large parking area outside the park, with some covered spaces. We stayed at an Airbnb in Rust, and our city tax receipt provided free parking at Rulantica—be sure to ask if you’re in a similar situation.

Rulantica truly blends thrilling water fun with immersive storytelling, making it a family-friendly destination year-round.
