The Natural History Museum at the University of Zurich is free to visitors. This museum has become a firm favorite for my son, blending fascinating science and nature exhibits that captivate kids and adults alike.
The Natural History Museum is home to an impressive collection of over 1,500 animal species and 1,000 fossils.My son’s highlights include the impressive dinosaur skeletons and ancient ammonites. The wooly mammoth skeleton is always a hit. One of our favorite stops is the station equipped with microscopes, where you can marvel at the intricate details of various bugs. We usually spend about 1-2 hours exploring the museum, making it a perfect activity whether it’s a rainy day or the kids simply need to burn off some energy.
At the entrance, you’ll find a cloakroom and stroller storage. Be aware that there are stairs to reach the lower exhibit featuring the animal species. Don’t forget to check out the small shop at the entrance, where you can even buy real fossils!
The University of Zurich is located on a hill overlooking the city. To make the journey even more exciting, consider taking the Polybahn funicular from the city center up to the university. This iconic red funicular offers stunning views of Zurich and the surrounding landscape. Alternatively, several parking garages are available if you’re driving, and the university is easily accessible by public transport.
