Skiing for Beginners at Fruttli-Land
Fruttli-Land is the ideal beginner ski area in Melchsee-Frutt. It features gentle slopes, magic carpets, and pull ropes to help children and new skiers gain confidence. The area also includes fun padded obstacles and small jumps to keep learning engaging. Best of all, it’s free to access and rarely crowded. While the kids enjoyed the kids club at the Frutt Lodge Resort, we purchased the affordable “Tageskarte Mini” pass, which covers the Vogelbüel lift and a gentle slope — perfect for shorter ski sessions without paying full ticket prices.
Sledding in Melchsee-Frutt
Sledding is a popular family activities in Melchsee-Frutt. In Fruttli-Land, families can bring their own sleds or borrow one for free. Kids also love the complimentary inner tube carousel that whirls them around in a circle. For more adventurous riders, there’s an 8 km toboggan run starting from the top cable car station and winding down to Stöckalp. It’s a thrilling route best suited for older kids and adults, as the wooden sleds can pick up considerable speed.
Equipment Rentals, Lift Tickets, and Ski Lessons
All winter equipment can be rented at the shop next to the top cable car station — including sleds, skis, boots, helmets, and snowshoes. Lift tickets can be purchased at both the valley and mountain stations. We booked a private ski lesson for our son through the Ski School Melchsee-Frutt, held right in Fruttli-Land. The school also offers fun group classes for kids.
Relaxing at the Frutt Family Lodge Spa
After a day in the snow, the Frutt Family Lodge spa is the perfect place to unwind. Non-hotel guests can also book spa access. Reservations should be made in advance, and entry includes robes, slippers, and towels (even in kid sizes). The spacious family spa features a large pool with bubbles and fountains, a steam room, saunas, and a baby pool — all with panoramic mountain and lake views. Families can also make use of the provided lockers, showers, and hair dryers.
Family Dining at Frutt Lago Restaurant
Located near Fruttli-Land, Frutt Lago Restaurant is our go-to dining spot on the mountain. The children’s buffet includes favorites like pizza, pasta, chicken nuggets, fries, and fresh fruits and veggies. Kids also enjoy coloring activities at the table. Adults can choose from Italian dishes — the pizzas and pastas are especially satisfying after a day outdoors.
Staying at the Frutt Family Lodge
The Frutt Family Lodge combines Alpine adventure with wellness and comfort for a memorable family stay. The property includes two interconnected lodges, with Lago Lodge dedicated to families — conveniently located next to the Fruttli-Land ski area. We stayed in a spacious family junior suite with a loft-style king bed and a pull-out sofa for the kids. Many rooms overlook the ski slopes and snow-covered mountains.

Melchsee-Frutt is just a 30-minute drive south of Lucerne. Park at Stöckalp, where both outdoor spaces and a covered garage are available. Hotel guests can drop off their luggage at the station for transport up to the lodge before parking their car. Cable car tickets can be purchased on-site, with discounts available for Swiss Travel Pass, Junior Cards, and Half Fare Cards. Guests staying at the Frutt Family Lodge often have lift access included.
