Lake Lucerne Short Cruise: A Relaxing One-Hour Trip with Stunning Mountain Views

If you’re looking for a relaxing escape with stunning views, a short cruise on Lake Lucerne is a great choice. Starting from Pier 3, right next to Lucerne’s main train station, this approximately one-hour round trip takes you from the city to Bürgenstock and back, offering breathtaking panoramas of Lucerne, Mount Rigi, and Mount Pilatus.

The boat features comfortable indoor seating, but I highly recommend spending time on the outdoor deck to fully soak in the spectacular mountain and city vistas. Whether you choose first or second class, you’ll enjoy scenic views. First class, located toward the back of the boat, tends to be less crowded and offers both indoor and outdoor seating options.

Tickets for the “short catamaran cruise” can be conveniently purchased online from Vier Waldstättersee or at the ticket booths by the pier. If you have a Swiss Half-Fare Card or Swiss Travel Pass, you can enjoy discounted prices. The dock is very accessible, just a five-minute walk from Lucerne’s train station, which also has a large parking garage underneath for those arriving by car. We scheduled our trip at sunset, which was very lovely. There was no drink or food service on board, so bring your own snacks. There is a ramp to access the boat, so bringing a stroller is possible.

This cruise is a wonderful way to unwind while admiring some of Switzerland’s most iconic landscapes. We recommend taking a cruise on Lake Lucerne if you have time on your trip. There are many different options available, allowing you to choose the cruise that best suits your itinerary.
