Candle dipping, or Kerzenziehen, is a cherished Swiss tradition, and we had the pleasure of experiencing it at the Reformierte Kirche Baar near Zug, Switzerland. This hands-on holiday activity was perfect for our family and offered a glimpse into Swiss culture.

As we entered, we were warmly greeted and guided through the process. We chose the size of our candles based on helpful examples showing approximate making times. Allocate 1-2 hours for this activity and depends on the size of the candle. The staff provided excellent instructions in English, which was invaluable for us as first-timers. Key tips included dipping the candle quickly and allowing it to dry between dips. Once the desired thickness was achieved, we explored decorating techniques, drawing inspiration from other creations. Decorating your candle is a highlight—ask for advice! The pricing was simple: candles are paid for by weight. While waiting for them to dry, we enjoyed snacks and browsed a small market nearby, adding to the festive atmosphere.

A pay parking lot is conveniently located across the street. This activity is not only fun but also a meaningful way to create memories and souvenirs. Kerzenziehen is a must-try family experience and happens at many locations around Switzerland so make sure to see if one is happening close by.
