Just a short 10-minute drive south of Lucerne, Switzerland, lies a hidden gem that has been open for over 200 years: Glasi Hergiswil. This renowned glass factory offers a unique experience for the whole family. Today, Glasi Hergiswil is the only glass works in Switzerland where glass is manually shaped and mouth-blown into contemporary forms. For the holidays, Glasi Hergiswil offered a special glass decorating event for families.

Guests were able to sign up to decorate a glass angel, tree, and/or candle holder. With reduced prices on the glass pieces, it was a fantastic opportunity for our kids to create personalized gifts for their grandparents. Guests are provided with a variety of stickers, sequins, and ribbon to personalize their glass object. Our kids enjoyed this opportunity to make special gifts for their family.

There are many activities at the glass factory including the glass maze. Glasi Hergiswil also offers several kid-friendly exhibits, providing hands-on experiences that explain the technical and magical attributes of glass. While our visit was slightly dampened by the rain, we still had a blast! The Glasi Park features a 7-meter-high marble run, a large quartz sandpit, and various water games. Make sure to watch the artisans at work making a variety of glass objects that can be purchased at the store.

Past the factory are two parking lots with one having free spaces for visitors. Also it’s just a short walk from the Hergiswil train station. A visit to Glasi Hergiswil is more than just a tour; it’s an immersive experience that combines history, art, and family fun.
