Giacometti Frescos:  “Hall of little Flowers” in Zurich

As you explore the charming streets of Zurich, Switzerland, be sure to discover the lesser-known yet beautiful Giacometti Frescos. These are located in the entrance hall of Zurich’s police headquarters at Amtshaus I. Created by Swiss artist Augusto Giacometti between 1922 and 1926, the frescos—often referred to as the “Blüemlihalle” or “hall of little flowers”—feature vibrant floral motifs, geometric patterns, and depictions of craftsmen and scientists. Originally commissioned to brighten a gloomy space in a converted orphanage, the vibrant frescos have become a work of national importance and were extensively restored in 2019.

Visitors can enjoy them during designated hours, and admission is free. You will be required to provide your ID to a police officer and will have a time limit to view the frescos. As it is an active police station, there are strict rules to follow. Once you finish viewing, the police officer will return your ID. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or simply seeking a tranquil moment amidst the bustling city, this hidden gem is sure to captivate and inspire.
