Family Fun in the Swiss Alps: Discover Allmendhubel Playground Above Mürren

Family days in the Swiss Alps don’t get much better than an adventure to the Allmendhubel playground above Mürren. With its blend of whimsical play zones, jaw-dropping mountain scenery, and a cozy restaurant right next door, this spot is a must for families seeking fun and fresh alpine air. Plan to spend at least 1–2 hours here, though you might find it hard to leave!

Mountain Playground

The Allmendhubel “Flower Park” playground is a wonderland for kids. My son’s favorite is the zip line. The flower maze is a hit too-kids dash through as jets of water squirt up for a refreshing surprise. There’s a big slide, swings, and plenty of climbing structures to explore. The panoramic alpine views are absolutely stunning, making it just as enjoyable for adults as for children.

Panorama Restaurant

Right next to the playground is the Panorama Restaurant Allmendhubel, offering both indoor and outdoor seating. The large sun terrace overlooks the playground, so you can relax with a meal or a drink while keeping an eye on the kids. The menu includes Swiss specialties and a kids’ menu featuring classics like chicken nuggets and fries. It’s a great place to recharge, enjoy the scenery, and let the kids play a bit longer. Table reservations can be made online.

How to Get There

Getting to Allmendhubel is part of the adventure. From Mürren, a funicular whisks you up the mountain in just four minutes. Note that the funicular has stairs, so if you have a stroller, be prepared; we prefer a hiking backpack for our little ones. Mürren itself is a charming, car-free mountain village worth exploring. To reach Mürren, you have two main options: take the cable car from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp, then a scenic train to Mürren (about 20 minutes total), or drive to Stechelberg, park in the large paid lot, and take two cable cars (via Gimmelwald) up to Mürren, which takes around 10 minutes.

Tickets and Schilthorn Combination Visit

Tickets can be purchased online or at the different stations. If you have time, consider combining a trip to Allmendhubel with a visit to Schilthorn as well (famous for its James Bond filming location). You can buy return tickets from Stechelberg to Schilthorn-just remember you’ll need an additional round-trip ticket from Mürren to Allmendhubel for the playground. Discounts are available for Swiss Half-Fare Card and Swiss Travel Pass holders, and children 5 and under travel free.

Quick Detour to Mürrenbachfall

If you choose the route to Allmendhubel from Stechelberg, make sure to view the Mürrenbachfall, which drops an incredible 417 meters. From the Stechelberg parking lot near the cable car station, take a short 10–15 minute walk across the bridge over the river to get a great view of the falls cascading down. This easy stroll is perfect for families and provides a great spot to snap a quick, picturesque family photo with the magnificent waterfall as a backdrop. The location is convenient and free to visit, making it an ideal, quick nature escape before continuing your mountain adventure.

Allmendhubel playground is the perfect blend of mountain adventure and family-friendly fun-an unforgettable highlight for any trip to the Bernese Oberland.
