Tucked away in the heart of Lucerne’s old town, Gelati Altstadt was a sweet highlight of our family stroll through the cobblestone streets. Part of a beloved Swiss gelateria chain that first opened in 1998, this little shop charmed us immediately with its tempting variety of flavors. I couldn’t resist the rich, velvety dark chocolate—an absolute dream—and loved that they offer a mini-scoop of another flavor, letting you indulge just a little more. The kids were delighted not only with their ice cream choices but also with the adorable animal toppers they got to take home as souvenirs. While there isn’t outdoor seating, the shop’s location near the Reuss River makes it easy to grab a cone and enjoy your treat as you wander along the water, soaking in views of Lucerne’s historic bridges and towers.
