I had the pleasure of joining the Guided City Tour with Luzern Tourismus, and it was a fantastic way to deepen my knowledge of Lucerne. Even after living here for two years, I learned so much new and fascinating information about this charming city. The tour lasts 1.5 hours and is conducted in English on select days, making it accessible for international visitors.

Tickets can be conveniently purchased online or directly at the store located in the main train station, which is also where the tour starts. The price is very reasonable, and the group size on my tour was about 20. Our guide was not only very knowledgeable but also friendly, sharing interesting stories and insights that brought Lucerne’s history and culture to life. Bring cash if you would like to tip the guide at the end of the tour.

The route covers many of Lucerne’s highlights, including the iconic Chapel Bridge, which involves some stairs, but the majority of the walk is flat and easy to manage. Children could do this tour, but I’m not sure how engaging it would be for them. My older son would love it as he enjoys history, but my youngest would struggle to pay attention. The tour is a great option for those wanting to explore the city’s historic buildings and hidden corners in a short amount of time.

Afterwards, I recommend visiting Hofbeiz Kulturhof Hinter Musegg, a small farm close to the city with farm animals and space for kids to run. For more information on this farm, click here. Another option is the Museum Lucerne, which features interactive exhibits on nature, geology, and insects, making it a great rainy-day activity. For more information on this museum, click here. There are many options of food in this area. For all of our recommendations, click here.

The start of the tour is easy to access via public transit since it begins in the station. I prefer to park at Parkhaus Schweizerhof, which is central, but there are several garages in the area. If you’re looking for a well-paced, informative, and enjoyable way to discover Lucerne, I highly recommend this guided tour. It’s perfect for both first-time visitors and locals wanting to see the city from a fresh perspective.
