As soon as I learned there was an FAO Schwarz in the heart of Milan, I knew we had to visit. Growing up near New York City, FAO Schwarz was a magical place I loved as a child, and I was thrilled to discover that this iconic toy store had opened its doors in Italy. After days spent exploring Milan’s monuments and museums—which, let’s be honest, weren’t always the most exciting for our little ones—this visit was our special treat for the kids. It quickly became one of their favorite highlights of our Milan trip.

Interactive Fun for Kids
What makes FAO Schwarz stand out is its abundance of interactive exhibits. The kids immediately gravitated toward the giant piano, joyfully running and leaping across the keys just like in the movies. They were also fascinated by a dragon robot they could control. Every corner of the store seemed to invite hands-on play, sparking creativity and laughter.

Personalized Toys and Memorable Moments
Another unique feature is the store’s personalized toys. There’s a dedicated area where you can design your own custom car, create a one-of-a-kind Barbie or baby doll, and even personalize plush animals. We chose a custom stuffed animal as a gift for a family member expecting a baby, and the process of picking out each detail together was a memorable family moment.

Convenient Location and Nearby Attractions
The location of FAO Schwarz Milan couldn’t be more convenient. Nestled between Sforza Castle (a 10-minute walk) and the Duomo (just 5 minutes away), it’s easy to combine a visit with other sightseeing. Just around the corner is the Starbucks Reserve Roastery, a must-see for coffee lovers. Here you can watch beans being roasted and sample unique drinks and treats, though be prepared for a line—this spot is popular for a reason.

If you’re visiting Milan with kids, FAO Schwarz is a can’t-miss stop. It’s the perfect blend of nostalgia for adults and pure joy for children, offering interactive fun and personalized souvenirs right in the city center. For our family, it was a magical break from sightseeing and a reminder that travel memories are often made in the most playful places.
