Have you ever watched curling during the Olympics and wondered what it would be like to try? My husband and I recently had the opportunity to satisfy our curiosity at the Zug Curling Club, and it was an experience we won’t soon forget!

We signed up for a one-hour introductory course, not quite knowing what to expect. We were advised to dress warmly, as the ice rink maintains a chilly temperature. The club provided us with special shoes to help navigate the slippery surface. Our patient instructor guided us through the basics of curling technique, strategy, and gameplay. We quickly realized that this sport is far more challenging than it appears on TV! Sliding across the ice while aiming a heavy stone requires a surprising amount of skill and precision.

The Zug Curling Club offers a variety of programs for different skill levels and age groups. We’re now considering enrolling in their five-week course to further develop our newfound curling skills. They even have a “cherry rocker” course for kids, which could be perfect for our son.

After working up an appetite, there is a restaurant inside overlooking the arena or the Freiruum food hall is just a five-minute walk away and offers an array of street food options. Click here for more information on the Freiruum. If you come by car, the uncovered “Parkplatz Gaswerkareal” is located in between the curling arena and Freiruum food hall. Also, it’s only a 10 minute walk to the Zug main train station if you prefer public transit. If you’ve ever been curious about curling, we highly recommend giving it a try. The Zug Curling Club provides an excellent introduction to this fascinating sport.
