Discover a Hidden Gem: The China Garden in Zurich

The China Garden offers a perfect blend of culture, nature, and tranquility right in the heart of Zurich. Located south of the Opera House and nestled along the shores of Lake Zurich, this free attraction is a great place for kids to explore. Allow for 30 minutes to an hour for your visit.

This beautiful temple garden, opened in 1994, is a gift from Zurich’s sister city, Kunming, and is considered one of the highest-ranking Chinese gardens outside of China. As you enter, you’ll be transported to a world of traditional Chinese architecture and landscaping. The garden features a stunning central pond with a small island and beautiful pavilions. It showcases traditional Chinese plants like pine trees, bamboo, and plum blossoms. Kids will love watching the colorful koi fish swimming in the pond.

Next door to the garden is a large playground that is fantastic for children. Consider walking along the lake and enjoying all the lovely green space. On warm days, we recommend stopping for gelato at Gelati am See located on the promenade next to the lake. Click here for more information on Gelati am See. The garden is also within walking distance of the Zurich Botanical Gardens and Villa Patumbah. Click here for more information.

The China Garden is a unique experience and great addition to any family trip to Zurich. Easily reached by public transit, it’s a perfect way for kids to be in nature without leaving the city.
