If you’re looking for a festive family outing during the holiday season, the Christkindlimarkt at Zurich Main Station (Hauptbahnhof) is one of our favorites. Known as one of the largest indoor Christmas markets in Europe, this enchanting event runs annually until December 24th, transforming the station into a winter wonderland.

Highlights of the Market
- The Iconic Christmas Tree: At the heart of the market stands a stunning 10-meter (32 ft) tall Christmas tree, beautifully adorned with red Lindt chocolate balls. A miniature train encircles its base, carrying golden chocolate bears—a delightful sight for kids and adults alike.
- Shopping: With over 100 stalls, you’ll find unique gifts ranging from handmade crafts to festive decorations.
- Delicious Food Options: The market offers a variety of food stalls to satisfy every craving. I highly recommend the Greek gyros, which were both delicious and filling. For a quieter snack break, head to the elevated seating area accessible by stairs, offering a lovely view of the bustling market. I really enjoy the food stalls every year at this market.
- Family Fun: Little ones will love the small carousel located within the market. Tickets are available for purchase on-site. Since this market is indoors, it can be visited regardless of the weather.

Conveniently located inside Zurich’s Hauptbahnhof, public transportation is the best way to reach Christkindlimarkt. The central location makes it easy to combine your visit with other holiday activities in Zurich. Whether you’re shopping for unique gifts, indulging in seasonal treats, or simply soaking in the festive atmosphere, Christkindlimarkt is great experience for the whole family.
