Fondue Inside an Igloo in Davos Klosters: A Unique Swiss Alps Experience

In Switzerland, fondue is a favorite winter meal found in many restaurants. For a truly unique Swiss experience, try enjoying fondue inside an igloo at 2,570 meters in Davos Klosters. The Iglu-Dorf restaurant features intricate ice carvings and a cozy snow bar. The igloo restaurant is part of the Iglu-Dorf Hotel, so take time to explore the snowy tunnels and frozen art before or after your meal.

Family-Friendly Dining Experience

We shared a delicious cheese fondue with another family, and it was a highlight of our trip. The restaurant also offers pasta for kids, making it a practical choice for families traveling with young children. Reservations are recommended, especially if you want to request a kids’ menu. Dress warmly—temperatures inside the igloo can be quite chilly—but that only adds to the fun of snuggling close and sharing hot fondue in this winter wonderland.

Staying Overnight at the Igloo Hotel

The igloo also doubles as a hotel, offering overnight stays in rooms sculpted entirely from ice and snow. Each room has its own theme, decorated with impressive snow and ice carvings. The kids were amazed and thought sleeping in an ice room would be unbelievably cool.

Igloo Building Course in Davos Klosters

Our family also joined a short course to learn how to build an igloo. It was a fun, interactive experience surrounded by breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps. Building together gave the kids a sense of adventure and accomplishment, and it’s perfect for families who love hands-on mountain activities. How to Reach the Iglu-Dorf in Davos

To reach the igloo village, take two funiculars from Davos Dorf to the Mittelstation and continue to Weissfluhjoch. The Panorama Bar at Weissfluhjoch is worth a stop for coffee or a snack while taking in the mountain views. From there, follow the signs for a 15–20-minute walk to the Iglu-Dorf. Note that sleds are not allowed, and the return climb to the funicular is quite steep, so plan extra time to catch the last train back down.
