Boulder Baar: Indoor Bouldering & Play Area for Kids in Zug

Boulder Baar is a great place for families to burn off energy indoors. Located in Baar, between Zurich and Lucerne in the canton of Zug, it’s an ideal year-round destination for active kids. The modern facility features a dedicated children’s play area, a large bouldering zone for all skill levels, and a café where families can relax. Plan to spend around two hours exploring, climbing, and playing.

Children’s Play Area

The highlight for our kids was the dedicated children’s play area. The colorful climbing walls feature fun themes like monkeys, bananas, hearts, and trees. The soft, springy floor cushions every jump and climb. There’s also a play fort with a bridge and a super-fast slide, plus a maze of dark tunnels upstairs that can be explored with a headlamp. At first, I was concerned about the bridge since it isn’t enclosed, but my 4- and 8-year-olds crossed it without a problem. Be sure to bring non-slip socks or climbing shoes, as street shoes aren’t allowed. Cubbies are available for coats and footwear.

Bouldering Area

The main bouldering hall at Boulder Baar covers about 1,000 m² and offers a wide range of climbing challenges for beginners to advanced climbers. Families can climb side by side, and kids aged five and older can join one of the supervised bouldering courses. Climbing shoes are available for rent.

Other Amenities and Tickets

Tickets can be purchased directly at the entrance, and families can save with discounted 10-entry bundles or annual passes. The on-site café serves drinks, pinsas, and snacks, with tables overlooking the bouldering area. The space is stroller-friendly, with dedicated parking at the entrance and elevator access. Baby chairs are available in the café, and a changing table is provided in the restroom area.

Getting There

Boulder Baar is located above the Salvation Army (Brocki) and can be reached by Bus 603 to Lättichstrasse. For those arriving by car, parking is available nearby, but note that the Landi lot can get expensive for stays of three hours or more (up to CHF 21). A better option is to park at the Decathlon or Lättich Schwimmbad lots—both within walking distance.

Final Thoughts

Boulder Baar is a top indoor family activities in Zug, especially on rainy or cold days. Our kids loved the play area, and even though some climbing sections were a bit tricky for younger ones, they quickly gained confidence after a few tries. It’s a perfect spot for families with energetic kids who love to climb, explore, and play. For more family-friendly activities in Canton Zug, check out our latest blog posts.
