Baar Chilbi: A Family‑Friendly Autumn Fair Near Zug, Switzerland

Baar Chilbi is an annual festival held in Baar, Switzerland, close to St. Martin’s Day on November 11. Baar is located just a 10-minute drive from the city of Zug and around 30 minutes from both Zurich and Lucerne. This traditional fair features amusement rides, food stalls, market stands, and carnival games. Smaller and less crowded than the larger autumn fairs in Lucerne or Basel, Baar Chilbi offers a relaxed outing for families. Plan to spend about one to two hours exploring everything this local fair has to offer.

Amusement Rides for All Ages

Our kids had a blast choosing their favorite rides to try. Our son couldn’t get enough of the funhouse, while our daughter loved every minute on the colorful carousel. Rides cost around 3 to 13 CHF per person, so it’s best to bring some cash for individual tickets. From gentle train rides perfect for toddlers to more thrilling attractions that swing or spin high in the air, there’s something for every member of the family.

Food and Market Stalls

The food stalls at Baar Chilbi serve plenty of delicious local favorites. We saw everything from grilled sausages and candy to pinsa, sandwiches, and our top pick—freshly made donuts. There are also a selection of carnival games to test your luck and win a prize. Although the market stalls were closed when we visited, they typically feature a nice mix of handmade crafts, seasonal gifts, and local foods. Most stalls accept both cash and TWINT, making it easy to shop and snack as you go. Check the event’s website ahead of time for the market stall schedule.

Getting There

Reaching Baar Chilbi is simple whether you travel by car or public transport. The fairgrounds are just a five-minute walk from Baar Main Station. If you’re driving, convenient parking is available at the Parkhaus Shop Coop located directly beneath the station. The fair takes place in the city center at Marktgasse 10, 6340 Baar. Be sure to check the website for updated information on rides, market stalls, and food stands.

Final Thoughts

Our family had a wonderful time at this local autumn festival. We especially appreciated that Baar Chilbi was smaller and easier to explore with children. Both our four- and eight-year-olds found rides they loved, and the food—especially those fresh donuts—made the day even more enjoyable.
